This feathery paper is also a great way to prevent scuff marks. For fragile items, think about wrapping them with tissue paper and follow with a protective layer of bubble wrap. And before you bin the tissue paper, consider reusing it. There are various nifty ways you can recycle tissue paper packaging after your move, for example, you can use it for cleaning or get creative with papier-mâché.
What’s tissue paper?
Tissue paper is a versatile and light paper – ideal for interleaving and protecting breakables. It is soft and feathery, and almost appears to be translucent. Tissue paper packaging is perfect for wrapping items before placing them in a box for moving or storing. When moving, tissue paper can be crumpled up and used to reduce friction between items in a box. Tissue paper also adds a great finishing touch to a present.
Is tissue paper acid-free?
Tissue paper can turn yellow and brittle over time and even damage objects around it. This is due to a change in the paper’s chemical composition. Most paper contains a by-product of wood called lignin, and as lignin breaks down over time, it turns paper acidic. So, acid-free tissue paper is what you need. And that is exactly what you will get in our Box Shop.
Can tissue paper be recycled?
Tissue paper is already made of recycled paper, and that makes the fibres too short to reuse. But you can add tissue paper to the compost heap. And there are a variety of different ways you can reuse your tissue paper before retiring it. Get crafty and create paper flowers, or get practical and line the bottom of the sandbox against odours.
Can I use tissue paper for moving house?
When moving house, you can rely on tissue paper to keep your belongings unsullied. This soft paper is great to protect delicate items like clothing and jewellery. To protect objects against scuff marks, wrap them in tissue paper and then a layer of butchers paper. Remember, you want to limit the movement of objects in the box, so fill the gaps with crumpled up tissue paper. If you plan on stacking the boxes, consider adding cushioning at the top and bottom.
Can I use tissue paper to wrap glass?
Glassware requires careful packing, and tissue paper can serve as a good foundation. When wrapping delicate items, start by filling hollow parts with scrunched up tissue paper. Next, cover the glass item with tissue paper and then add a layer or two of bubble wrap for protection. Ensure that items can’t shift around in the box – without overloading it.
Can I use tissue paper to wrap clothing?
Tissue paper is a great way to protect clothes from snagging or getting dusty when you move. On your travels, you can protect delicate garments against creases by wrapping or rolling them in tissue paper. Steer clear of coloured tissue paper as they might not be bleed-resistant. Use acid-free tissue paper to store garments in. Acidic tissue paper can weaken the fibres of the fabric and even change the colour and appearance.
